RingFilter Comments

RingFilter 2.4 Released!  See Release Info for details on changes.  RingFilter can now Block Calls or send them directly to Voicemail!  Also, you can use Contacts from your Contact List, or use Number Prefixes to match incoming calls that begin with your entered Number Prefix!

IMPORTANT: If you are using Android 2.3 or later, or plan on updating to version 2.3, please take this into consideration. The Android developers took away a security permission that RingFilter requires in order to Block Calls and send them to Voicemail. Without this permission available, the functionality of RingFilter will be degraded, and it will be unable to Block Calls or send them to Voicemail.  We strongly encourage you to open Android  Issue 15031 and STAR IT.  To Star it, you may need to log in using your Google account first.  Android needs to hear from you, the users!

When you update, if you currently have a Schedule that is monitoring, your Notification Icons will disappear.  This is normal, and only happens during the update process.  Don’t worry, as RingFilter is still monitoring.  Simply open RingFilter and it will reset your notifications so they appear in your Notification Bar again!

Hello and welcome to the official comments page for RingFilter! First of all, I want to thank you for being here! RingFilter is an Android program designed by Paul Dennis of ZeroIO LLC. If you are here, you most likely know what RingFilter is. If you are not familiar with RingFilter, below is a brief explanation of what RingFilter does.  You may also watch the YouTube demonstration below, or see if your question has already been answerd the FAQ page:

So whether you own RingFilter or are thinking about purchasing it ($4.95 on the Android Market), please feel free to comment with your thoughts, questions, suggestions, etc!

As a quick intro, my name is Paul Dennis, and when I designed RingFilter, I wanted to create a tool that would give people the freedom to control exactly when their phone will ring and when it will be silent. However, I didn’t feel like this was enough control. I wanted people to be able to control exactly who could call or text and have the phone ring or play a notification, while having the phone silence the others. By creating RingFilter, I was able to accomplish that.

RingFilter NEVER blocks calls or texts, so even if it silences them, you have the notification waiting for you. The big difference here is that it puts you in control of when you want to check your notifications (missed calls or texts waiting). It gives people control over who they want to allow to call or text and have the phone actually ring or play a notification. For other people, if they choose, the phone will stay silent when they call or text. Using as many Groups and Schedules in RingFilter as you want, you can set it up to control exactly when your phone will ring for exactly the contacts you choose!

Please ask any questions you have or leave me feedback on what you love about RingFilter or what you would love to see in an update to RingFilter. Any and all comments are appreciated, but please keep the comments clean so everyone can enjoy the page.

Thanks!

NOTE: I have had some suggestions to include an optional Donate button for those of you who would like to do so. I am grateful for those who have purchased the program whether you donate or not! I hope that RingFilter provides a great lifestyle improvement for everyone who uses it, and if you feel motivated to Donate, I would be grateful and thankful for any amount you choose. Thanks again for taking the time to visit the site and leave comments/feedback/questions!

I love Ring Filter! I use it everyday at work and every night when I sleep. Great design of the program and great looking graphics! :) Nice website!

RingFilter is AWESOME!! For the first time since I got a cell phone, I am comfortable giving out my number. No more worries about being woken up by unwanted calls, or getting unwanted calls at inappropriate times. RingFilter takes care of it all for me. I have a group that just has immediate family, and they get access 24/7. Another group can call just during business hours, and another group can call until 10 in the evening. It’s flexible, it’s easy, and it’s freedom to enjoy my time! Thanks, Paul!!!

  3. I am impressed! Blog message posted here is quite my friend. I just after to guess keep up with comments and prominence work. IE browser bookmarks to your blog ethical with it, I l be involved a arise in arrears to see my friends more in the future! The color of the layout is not spoiled, it is easy on the eyes.

  4. There is obviously a whole lot to know about this. I believe you made some good points in Attributes also.
    Keep working , fantastic task!

  5. Jim says:

I just purchased ring filter and I think it works great it siliences texts at night except for thoose I choose to allow through. It is very helpful.
I have some questions about features and wondering if some of the following enhancments could be added
    .
    1) When a schedule is active and the volume is set at a certain level it overides the droid 2 quick silent vibrate mode forcing you to have Ring Filters silent overide feature which is a few menus deep to activate. It would be nice to have a widget that you could customize to do quick tasks like silent the phone for 2 hours for a movie. It could be clicked when you go into the movie from a shortcut and then automatically turn off 2 hours later in case you forget to turn it back on. At the very least a quick shortcut to silence the phone without going through the extra menus would be helpful.

    2) A coolfeature that the andoid doesn’t seem to have would be a way to silence a barage of texts from same person for a time once you get the 1st audable notification of a text so when you are texting back and forth the phone doesn’t keep beeping a zillion times in a text conversation. Then the text sound could go back to normal if no one has texted for a while like 5 minutes.

      Jim,

That’s great to hear it’s helping you, thanks for the feedback!

As far as your suggestions, thank you for those as well. I am very interested in your first comment about the Droid 2 Quick silent vibrate mode. I have not worked with that phone or that feature, but would like to know more about it. I will do some research on that feature. If I have questions on how you personally use the feature, do you mind if I email you using the email you provided? I will also be adding the widget for Silent Override in the next update, that’s a great suggestion!

Your second suggestion is a good one as well, and would be a good idea for a separate app!

Its a reverse swipe you do when phone is locked to switch from ringing to vibrating. Similar to older phones when you hold the * key. Paul u can email me as well if u need to know more.

I purchased ringfilter, and cant get it to work. I work 16 hr shifts and only get 8-10 hrs rest in between shifts. So I purchased this to stop from being woke up on my rest. I need disbatch and my wife to be able to get ahold of my any time but your app isn’t working for me?? I need to know why??

    • Rick says:

I figured it out, deleted the group added the contacts again and now it works. No need to reply. Thank you

      • Paul Dennis says:
        Rick,
I’m glad you figured it out. I’m not sure what would have been the initial issue. If you had successfully added the contacts to the group, and had changed the contacts in your phone, such as name, number, etc., I have seen where Android actually changes the internal ID for those contacts. In this case though, RingFilter will automatically remove the old contact from the Group, since Android has changed its only reference to that contact. You’d then just have to add the contact to the Group again.

Your issue sounds different, however. If you think it is an issue and you’d like to visit more about it, we sure can. Glad to hear it’s working now. I hope it is now letting you rest without interruption!

        -Paul

  7. Wow! what an idea ! What a idea ! Attractive .. Wonderful ? I normally don?t submit in Blogs but your weblog forced me to, wonderful perform.. gorgeous ?

  8. Brian says:

I purchased Ring Filter and it does not appear to be working properly. I set group called home (21 contacts) I then set a schedule which falls between the current time and included home in that schedule. I then did a test and everything is silent when any of the 21 contacts text or call. I checked the volume in the schedule and it is set at 50%. Any ideas?

  9. Brian says:

Will Ring Filter work with Text Secure? I believe this might be the issue as to why I am not getting notification on text.

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Brian,
I will do some research on Text Secure, as I’m unfamiliar with the program. In the meantime, can you explain exactly how the Schedule is set up? Do you have only the one Schedule and the one Group? If so, and you’ve added your 21 contacts to your Home group, the most logical reason I can think of for them being silent is that the Group isn’t checked within the Schedule’s Groups. What I mean is when you go into your Schedule, and you click on Edit by the Groups label, all of your Groups will automatically show up, appearing to be included, but you must make sure the box is Checked in order for them to be added to that Schedule and actually Ring though when they call.

One great way you can test it is to go into your Schedule’s Preferences that is monitoring now, and Check the boxes for “Allow Calls From All Contacts” and “Allow Texts From All Contacts”. Then have one of them call again. This will let you know if it is a problem with the Group, or if it could be a problem with Text Secure and RingFilter.

We will figure it out! Let me know how it goes.
      -Paul

    • Paul Dennis says:
Ok, I couldn’t wait, so I looked up TextSecure, and I downloaded it and installed it. It works just fine with RingFilter, so good news there!

One thing that I’ve actually seen happen to someone is that they couldn’t receive any calls and it wasn’t seeming to work, so they used the RingFilter Widget to reset the phone setting and volume correctly for RingFilter. To do this, touch and hold the home screen, then choose Widgets, and scroll to RingFilter, and touch it. You should now see a green speaker on the familiar RingFilter Shield on your desktop. Now just tap the Widget, and it will pop up a message saying “Volume Reset Successful!” and you can then try having them call again.

Also, I just want to make sure that RingFilter is monitoring. Is the RingFilter icon in your Notification Bar up on the top of the screen? If you drag the bar down, does it say “RingFilter is Monitoring”?

Lots of things to try I know, but I’m trying to think of everything possible.

Good luck, and we’ll get to the bottom of it!
      Paul

  10. Paul Dennis says:
    Important Note!
Brian discovered something in his post. There was an issue with RingFilter version 1.0 and TextSecure working together with Texts. I put in a request with WhisperSystems, creators of TextSecure, to work together to resolve this issue. We worked together, and RingFilter version 1.0.1 now is compatible with TextSecure. Please let me know if anyone has questions.

    Thanks Brian for finding this,
    Paul

  11. jim says:

What combination do I need to allow my family to text at night and allow all calls through but silence a couple of peoples rings at the same time. I have 2 schedules running at same time one with no contacts and ringer at 0 and allow all calls through. And another with family group and the ringer on. Normal and allow all calls through. What do I add to silence a couple of people for the same time period. I am thinking another schedule with another group and the ringer on zero wth all calls ring cheked off please confirm if this is correct or if there is a better way.

  12. TerryCousins says:

Hi, looks like the program I’m after, not getting bothered by customer calls after 9pm until 9am the next day, but taking calls from friends and family still and can it also send unkown caller IDs to voice mail?

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Terry,
Thanks for the support, it’s great to hear this program might help you! To answer your question, while it won’t send unknown caller IDs DIRECTLY to voicemail, it WILL silence them, basically doing the same thing. You will not notice any difference versus sending straight to VM, but they will just have to wait for a few more rings before going to VM and leaving a message.

I hope that answers your question, thanks!
      -Paul

  13. Terry says:

I bought it and its awesome. Now I do really feel relaxed at keeping my phone on after business hours.
    I highly recommend this app.

LG GT540 on Android Eclair 2.1

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Terry,

Thanks so much for the comment! That is exactly what I hoped it would accomplish in creating RingFilter, where people can feel free again with their cell phones on all the time! I appreciate the feedback!

      Thanks!
      Paul

  14. Butch says:

    1) Can it block specific numbers?

    2) Can it either send specific number to voicemail or hang up option? Basically wanted most numbers to go to voicemail as normal, but set specific numbers to hangup as if the phone is dead.

    3) Can it allow full access for specific numbers so as not to miss a call ot text?

    Any help is appreciated.

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Butch,
Thanks for your questions, I’ll answer them in the same order as you asked them.
      1) RingFilter will allow you to choose specific Contacts, but not specific Unknown numbers.
      2) RingFilter silences unwanted Calls and Texts, but does not send any straight to voicemail. They will show as missed calls to you, and they can still leave a voicemail if they choose.
      3) It is designed to do just that! During RingFilter’s Schedules that you set up, it will monitor for incoming Calls and Texts, and based on the people you choose to Allow through, it will ALWAYS allow those people to Call or Text, making sure you never accidentally have your phone on Silent or Vibrate, and miss their Call.

Check out the YouTube video demonstration that I just posted up at the top of the page to help get a better grasp of what it can do.

Please don’t hesitate to ask more questions if I haven’t answered them for you.

      Thanks!
      Paul

  15. Liam M. says:

    1. If I create a single contact called “Telemarketers” and added 5+ numbers to that contacts profile, will your app block all phone numbers within that contact or do I need a contact per phone number?

    2. If I want to block above telemarketers 24/7, would I schedule that group to daily and leave time as 12:00am-12:00am?

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Liam,

Thanks for the great questions. Here are the answers:

      1. You can definitely just create the 1 contact called Telemarketers if you already know their phone numbers. RingFilter uses the Contacts associated with phone numbers, so you may add as many numbers as Android will allow for a Contact, and when they call on any 1 of those numbers, RingFilter will know it is them. If you are then wanting to Block that contact, you would create a Group within RingFilter, and add your Telemarketer contact to that group. Then, go into the Group Details by pressing the button with the group’s name on it, and uncheck both Call and Text from the Telemarketer contact. Now, once this Group is added to a Schedule, those telemarketers will be silenced while that Schedule is monitoring!

      2. You are very close here, and just need to tweak the time to 12:00am–11:59pm. If you had a Schedule running with Daily and this time, it would run 23hrs 59min, 7 days a week. I do see that if you’d like this type of application that it would be beneficial to think about changing it to go 24 hours if set to 12:00am–12:00am. I will write that down as a possible addition. Do you see value in that?

Thanks again, and let me know if I can help further!
      Paul

      • Liam M. says:

Great app, great developer! Glad I bought it! The 24hr option would be cool if possible, knowing my luck, telemarketers would call me in that 1min window! This is a very low priority though. Congrats on the very successful programming of it to date, and thanks for the rapid reply!

        • Paul Dennis says:
          Liam,

Thanks for the nice comment! I’m really happy to hear that it will help you! I always love hearing about it making people relax and be able to have freedom leaving their phone on. I appreciate the feedback, and will mark the 24 hour feature down as a future addition, as it makes a lot of sense to add.

In the meantime, I wanted to point out that it does not have to be 12:00am to 11:59pm in order to work in that way. Since you’d probably be sleeping at that time, you could just as well move the Schedule to the daytime, from 2:00pm to 1:59pm or something like that.

          Thanks again!
          Paul

  17. Richard Hill says:

I am having a bit of difficulty with the schedule: I don’t get a notification, nor does it seem to be active in filtering alerts. Any ideas? (Desire on 2.2)

I bought this to eliminate automated alert texts at night, so if this could be configured to operate more intuitively with an option as a blacklist, then that would be a good future development.

Overall, looks good with a professional touch and could well shape up to be the Android version of BeBuzz on the BlackBerry – but with some tweaks a whole lot better!

    • Richard Hill says:

      Just re-read my last post….

EDIT: – but with some tweaks a whole lot better [than BeBuzz]

      • Paul Dennis says:
        Thanks a lot Richard!

Did you get my latest email? If so, is it working for you now? Please let me know if I can clarify anything for you.

  18. Kim says:

So I have tried app after app and this one is by far the easiest to maneuver. I work nights and sleep days, so only want certain people to reach me in that full 24 hours. The developer worked with me when I had a problem, which turned out to be user error. Soooooo much better than white list! I feel like I have my blackberry again! Thanks again to the developer for being so quick to respond!

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Kim,

Thanks so much! It is stories like this that I always remember. I’m so glad that it can help you be free to leave your phone on without worrying!

      Thanks again!

  19. James says:

    I have two questions.
    1. Can you actually block a group of callers or do they all have the option to go into voice mail? ie ex-employees
    2. I am currently using a Samsung Captivate, but am looking at purchasing the Motorola Atrix in a couple of months. Would I have to pay again for this software when I switch?

    • Paul Dennis says:
      James,

Thanks for the questions! You can definitely block a group of callers. Keep in mind that the only scenario you would need to do this is if you have a Schedule set to Allow Calls from All Contacts or Allow Unknown Calls. The reason I mention this is because if you have a Schedule monitoring that does not have those options marked, RingFilter is only going to allow only the people to Call or Text that are in a Group or Groups added to this Schedule. That being said, if you do want all contacts except those specific people to be able to call, here’s how you do it:

All you need to do is create a Group, we’ll call it “Blocked” for this example, but you can call it whatever you want. Then, simply add your ex-employees to that Group, and go into its Group Details, and UNCHECK Call and Text from all of them. Now, just add that Group to your Schedule by going into that Schedule, and pressing the Edit button beside Groups, and check the box for your “Blocked” Group. Now whenever that Schedule is monitoring, and you receive a call or text from one of those people, even if you have marked Allow Calls From All Contacts, RingFilter will see that you have specifically NOT allowed them, and will silence them

To answer your second question about paying for the app again, don’t worry, you will never have to pay for RingFilter again, UNLESS you change your account that you use for the phone. As long as you keep your existing Google account that you use for this phone, it will recognize you and know you have a valid license.

      Does this answer your questions?

      Thanks!
      Paul

      • James says:

Thanks Paul for the quick response. I understand the groups and blocking scenario, but the question I have is what happens if they call? Do they go to voice mail or does it just “silent” ring or do they actually get blocked as in blocked and hangup? I am currently using a caller blacklist which does the ex employee hangup job, but want your program to schedule on and off timed features at night and on weekends, etc Do you see any problem if I used both programs?

        I have two questions.
        1. Can you actually block a group of callers or do they all have the option to go into voice mail? ie ex-employees
        2. I am currently using a Samsung Captivate, but am looking at purchasing the Motorola Atrix in a couple of months. Would I have to pay again for this software when I switch?

        • Paul Dennis says:
          Hey james,

Ok, so just to make sure I’m understanding you correctly, it sounds like one of the things you’re wondering is what it means when I say RingFilter will “block” someone. RingFilter just silences the ringer for those people, it doesn’t actually interfere with the call itself, such as sending to voicemail or picking up and hanging up. Therefore, in the morning, or the next time you looked at your phone, you’d see a missed call, and a voicemail if they left one.

Just so I understand where you’re coming from on the Caller Blacklist program, are you wondering if you have RingFilter set up on a Schedule to Allow Calls from all Contacts, and an ex-employee calls, will it override your other program and allow them to ring? Or are you hoping RingFilter can be your only program, and then uninstall the other one?

If you’re hoping they’ll work together, I don’t see a problem in using both programs. The ONLY scenario where I would advise that you test for a problem is in the case where you create a Schedule in RingFilter that is set to Allow Calls from All Contacts, which includes the ex-employees. Then, if a call from one of them came in, the question would be will the other app send it to voicemail before RingFilter lets them ring through. This actually could be easily fixed though, since you could just have RingFilter silence those specific contacts like we talked about before. Then, RingFilter and your call blocker would both see the call coming in, and if RingFilter was quicker than your other program, it would just be silent until they went to voicemail anyway. And actually, if the call blocker did consistently send them to voicemail before RingFilter allowed them to ring, you wouldn’t even need to set up those ex-employees in RingFilter at all.

I hope that I understood your question correctly, and hope that I hit the points that you wanted me to answer. If not, feel free to send me an email and we can visit back and forth and get this figured out!

          Thanks!
          Paul

Just purchased programme. Everything i try to do comes up
    with force close message. Why?

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Peter,

I just sent you an email. You’re the first one out of many people to have this issue, but we will get to the bottom of it!

      Thanks!
      Paul

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Hey Peter,

I checked the reported errors on my Publisher page, and there aren’t any, which makes me wonder, do you have the Android Market app on your phone? In order for the Licensing Service to work that the Android Market uses, the phone must have the Android Market app installed.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

      Thanks!
      Paul

  21. Brian says:

Great work. The 24hr option would be great. Maybe an option under preferences for days and a check box for 24hrs. If I could get really greedy then add a widget to turn off and on the 24hr schedules. Just a thought.

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Thanks Brian,

Good suggestions. I definitely have it marked down to add the 24 hour option, so it will be in an upcoming release. I see a need for that, and it makes a lot of sense to have it.

      Thanks!
      Paul

  22. Mary says:

I noticed that with the first two updates, my notification icon did not return until I turned a schedule on and off. With the latest update, however, my notification icon came back up without my having to do anything but open RingFilter again. Thanks for that!

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Mary,

No problem! I received some great feedback that some people were having trouble with that, so it’s the people who give that feedback that we can thank as well! In all future updates, the notifications will be restored once you open RingFilter for the first time after the update is installed.

      Thanks!
      Paul

  23. Erin says:

How do I set up for it toblock unknown numbers and numbers that aren’t in my contacts?

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Erin,

You most certainly can do that, and actually RingFilter does this by default when a Schedule is monitoring. You have to specifically set a Schedule to Allow Unknown Calls for it to allow them through. I have sent you an email as well, and can clear anything up that you need.

      Thanks!
      Paul

  24. Richard Hill says:

All working now – great work and it is a pleasure to to have a developer who is so responsive to customers. A well earned 5* feedback.

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Richard,

Great to hear! Thank you so much for the positive feedback and review, I really appreciate you taking the time to do that. And thank you again for reporting this problem to me, you helped improve RingFilter for everyone!

      Thanks again!
      Paul

  25. Liam M. says:

    Hello Again Sir!

I’ve come across a new issue with this app, I’ll provide as much info as possible.

    Phone: Nexus S
    OS: 2.3 (Gingerbread)
    Carrier: Wind Mobile

Issue: After using this program for approx. a week or two I recently found out it’s working too well! I’ve been missing many calls from lots of my contacts. After much reading and troubleshooting I have an answer and hope you can provide a fix!

Turns out, RingFilter had muted my master ringtone volume (Settings -> Sound -> Volume -> Ringtone). I had control to turn it back-up, and I did so many times over. Everytime I’d send myself a test call or rebooted my phone though, RingFilter would mute my ringtone volume again.

I’ve uninstalled RingFilter (regrettably) and now my master ringtone volume saves and all calls come through fine and un-muted. The settings have not reversed back to mute since uninstalling this app.

Any ideas why your app would be causing a conflict with my volume settings? Is this fixable?

Thanks for your time and advise, looking forward to your response!

    • Liam M. says:

      Some further info:

      - Had volume settings at 75% up
      - Reinstalled RingFilter
      - Created one group called ‘Telemarketers’ and added one contact to it
      - Checked master volume settings of phone (Settings -> Sound -> Volume -> Ringtone) and RingFilter has muted the entire phone again.
      - Uninstalled RingFilter, turned up volume to 75%, made a test call, settings stayed.

I wish I knew what was causing RingFilter to mute my entire phone!

      • Paul says:

        Liam,

I am out of town and responding from my phone, but I. Want to quickly clear this up for you and everyone wondering. The volume being muted as you are seeing is how RingFilter is designed to behave, but ONLY when it is monitoring. The fact that it is always muted makes me think you have a schedule currently monitoring. If you are missing calls that you want to Allow, then we need to figure out how your schedule is set up. Don’t worry, we’ll get figured out for you. Ill email you as soon as I can when I get back to find out what’s going on.
        Talk to you soon!
        Paul

        • Paul Dennis says:

One more thing that might help Liam is to read the Volume Information dialog if you’d like to learn more about what’s going on. You can find that dialog in the options screen.
Don’t worry ill contact you soon and we’ll figure it out.

          Thanks for your patience,
          Paul

  26. Liam M. says:

Thanks Paul, I only have/had one group and schedule. 12am-11:59pm, blocks a Telemarketers group of three phone numbers. I assumed it would only turn down the ringer when those three phone numbers called, but it’s muting my entire phone for 12hrs a day…should it be affecting the master volume while monitoring for specific numbers? Thanks for your advise Paul!

    • Paul Dennis says:

      Hey Liam!

This is actually working as designed, but you should never miss calls that you want to accept. I know that it may be discomforting to see your master ring volume at 0, but due to the way Android works, this was necessary to prevent your phone ringing for a couple seconds even when people call that you want to block. I will explain in detail when I get back, but for now I would definitely suggest reading the volume information info in Options. You will just need to change the schedule to allow the users you want to allow. I hope that makes sense, and I’d be more than happy to explain in more detail when I am back.

      Thanks Liam!!

My add groups feature has worked wonderfully, until yesterday’s update. Now I can’t add members to my groups. Contacted the developer and he is aware of the problem and will remedy soon. Thanks!!

WOW!!!! Update already out there, and everything works perfectly again!!!!!

I really like the app and it works great on my Droid X. I have a few suggestions that would be nice if it is possible to include in future versions.

    1. The Override Silent widget would be even better if it changed its appearance based on whether or not it is active. I have an aftermarket launcher and keep my status bar hidden and the ability for the widget to indicate status would be great.

    2. A widget that either shortcuts directly to the schedules page or allows you to turn schedules on and off from the widget would be nice. Schedules are great but sometimes I need to enable or disable schedules on the fly. A widget for this would help. I tried setting a custom activity to go directly to the schedules page, but I believe the license check that runs prevents direct access.

    3. This was mentioned before, but the ability to set the silent override with a timer to automatically cancel would help prevent forgetting to turn it back off.

These are just some ideas I had that I feel would make it better. I am in no way saying the program is inadequate. In fact, just the opposite. Great app. Great job. Keep up the good work!

      Brandon,

Thank you very much for the positive feedback and comments!

These are great suggestions, and as always, I’ll make note of them! Actually, your suggestion #2 has been approved as a future addition, as it was suggested to me before, and it’s a great idea, so thanks! I want you to know that each an every suggestion is taken seriously, and careful consideration is made whether to include a suggestion or not. Just so you know how the process works, while I am always looking for ways to expand RingFilter to improve it for everyone, I also have to be aware of every existing user. By this I mean that I always try to keep in mind that they purchased RingFilter for a certain purpose, so while I want to add any new feature to improve it, I want to make sure not to change existing behavior so much so that it hurts the users’ original purpose.

It is very important to me that RingFilter adapt and grow to meet as many people’s needs as possible, so I appreciate each and every suggestion!

      Thanks again, and take care!

    Paul,
I had the program for a couple of months and tested it originally to insure it was working properly, however I just realized it is now blocking the calls I had set up to always get through. The group is checked and I have not changed any settings. As a trouble shoot I deleted the curent group and have just have my home number in the new group, but as soon as the program monitors it silences the call. I have recently upgraded to 2.2 on my Samsung Captivate. I don’t know how long this has been blocking all calls, but I am wondering with the update might be the problem? Should I uninstall and reinstall? At this point I cannot use the program due to emergency calls I need to be on call for.

      Hey James,

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble! We’ll get to the bottom of your issue. I will send you an email as well, but the first thing that comes to mind is to make sure that you have your Groups attached to your Schedules. If you don’t perform this step, RingFilter will not know that you want to Allow those people to Call and Text, and will silence them. To do this, you just need to open up each Schedule, then once you’re in the Schedule’s Details screen showing Frequency, Start Time, etc., press the button that is labeled with the number of Groups you have added. You should then see a list of all Groups you have created within RingFilter. You then need to press each Group so that it has a green Check mark in the checkbox for each Group. Then, hit Done, and do this for each Schedule that you want to Allow those contacts.

Please let me know if this is your issue. If not, we’ll need to dig a little deeper, but we’ll figure it out. Thanks a lot for letting me know.

      Talk to you soon!
      Paul

Paul, I ran into a problem tonight. I have a contact with multiple numbers. I added this contact to my groups but Ring Filter is only allowing the primary number to ring or text. I would like all numbers to ring and text. Phone info: HTC Incredible Android 2.2

    • Paul Dennis says:
      Hey Brian,

Sorry to hear of your trouble. I just set up a contact on my phone with 6 different numbers, and set the main number as the very last one. I set the first number as the default, and called from the last number in the list, and it worked for me. I was very surprised to hear about this issue because of the way RingFilter is set up. RingFilter actually doesn’t work with phone numbers (unless you use the Number Prefix option) but rather with the Contacts themselves. So, you probably checked this already, but have you made sure that when they call on the other number, that your phone identifies them as that person? If so, it is possible that their internal Identifier used by RingFilter may have changed, in which case I would remove that contact from your Group completely. Then, choose Add/Remove Members, and select their name from your contact list again. Make sure that they don’t have 2 entries in your contact list as well, since this could cause problems. Basically, if your phone identifies them as the correct contact, RingFilter should as well, and should work correctly. I’ll email you to make sure you see this response, and hope to hear good news back from you!

Talk to you soon, and good luck!
      Paul

  32. Tomorrow Paul you find a great review of this awsome apps on my Weblog RCS…

This application is really great. The latest version 2.1 fixes a small issue I had with 2.0. The developer really listens to his customers, and where appropriate acts on feedback and acts to resolve any issues within a very fast time-scale. In my option this app is well worth the investment.

    Hey Paul,
I haven’t emailed in a while, but wanted to share with all my experiences with your program. I was one of those that upgraded to 2.3 and you mentioned it degrades the program, however in reality it still works as intended. True it will not block/hangup per say unwanted calls, but it still silences them putting them into voicemail instead. I am on call 24/7 and have only a select few co workers that can contact along with family. The program still silences all other calls during my prescibed time and after all that is what counts. Thanks again for a excellent program. It is a sleep saver :)

I love ring filter, I work nights so its perfect to let emergency calls through. I was wondering if you could tweak it so that a ringtone could be assigned to an entire group, just thought I would ask.
